Training Courses
Living with Wildlife's Working with Venomous Snakes training courses provide the most up to date information, instruction and practical training available for people with any level of knowledge and experience in the capture and relocation of venomous snakes. Every course is tailored to suit the needs of the participants.
Each course is available as
- A comprehensive three-day course
- An abridged two day course with an online component
- Refresher and Advanced techniques courses are 1 Day in length
- Live snakes are an essential feature of every session
- Active participation is encouraged, under safe and controlled conditions
- Comprehensive course notes are supplied to each participant
- Information about snakes and their behaviours is based on the most recent scientific studies
- The maximum number of participants is 14. Advanced Techniques courses are limited to 6 participants
Living with Wildlife also conducts numerous Snake Awareness Sessions for people that would benefit from this kind of knowledge and training. These sessions provide answers to many of the most common questions asked about snakes and their behaviour and they teach participants how to recognise snake hazards and what to do about them, the options for dealing with snakes and what to do if an accident happens.

Learning Outcomes
The learning outcomes depend on the course conducted.
The Learning Outcomes for the comprehensive, three-day Working with Venomous Snakes - Introduction to Handling Course include, but not limited to:
- Understanding the medical implications of coming into contact with venomous or other snakes
- Be able to apply effective first aid for snakebite, and understand the medical management of snakebite
- Have a basic understanding of snake biology and ecology, and know the importance and implications of temperature as it effects snakes
- Be able to identify potential snake hazards, and have an understanding of snake hazard management in the workplace
- Be able to effectively and safely restrain, capture and remove venomous and/or other snakes in the workplace, and in other areas
- Outcomes as relevant to specialist courses (eg Field Techniques, Husbandry)
The Learning Outcomes for the abbreviated one or two-day course include, but not limited to:
- Understanding the medical implications of coming into contact with venomous or other snakes
- Be able to apply effective first aid for snakebite
- Know the importance and implications of temperature as it effects snakes
- Be able to identify potential snake hazards, and how to rectify them in the workplace
- Be able to effectively and safely restrain, capture and remove venomous and/or other snakes in the workplace, and in other areas
- Understand the difficulties in the identification of snakes
- Understand the principles of Euthanasia and Short-term husbandry
The Learning Outcomes for all Awareness Sessions, including Community Awareness Sessions include:
- Having a better understanding of snakes and their behaviour
- Knowing how to make your workplace or home/property less "snake friendly"
- Understand what actions to take if you come into contact with a snake so that you can greatly reduce the chance of being bitten
- Obtain an attitude of healthy respect of snakes
- Understand proper snake bite first aid
- Understand the difficulties in the identification of snakes
