Working with Venomous Snakes - Introduction to Handling Course

This is the first in a series of Living with Wildlife venomous snakes handling and relocation courses

3 days - maximum 14 participants

  • Designed for participants with no prior experience and/or minimal knowledge of venomous snakes
  • An abridged two day course with an online component is also available on request
  • Includes the use of equipment specifically designed for catching and restraining all Australian venomous snakes
  • The safety aspects of handling venomous snakes are constantly promoted and reinforced throughout the course
  • Snake bite first aid is taught, practiced and reviewed each day of the course
  • Includes practical sessions with live venomous snakes
  • Training techniques taught are the most up to date available from herpetological and medical sources at the time of training
  • Topics include but are not limited to:
    • Snake bite first aid
    • Health risks
    • Snake behaviour
    • Risk identification & hazard management
    • Emergency response planning
    • Effects of snake bite
    • Legal requirements
    • Medical reasons for avoiding venomous snakes
